The Tatar Democratic Union celebrates UNESCO World Day for Cultural Diversity, Dialogue and Development 2023 under the patronage of CNR-UNESCO

18.05.2023 - Bucharest: The Tatar Democratic Union, alongside the Mediator Office - Balint Claudia Crina, the project manager in partnership with the Center for Creation, Art, and Tradition of Bucharest-CREART, held the International Conference of the "UNITED IN DIVERSITY! NO DISCRIMINATION" Project, 3rd Edition, at the CREART headquarters in the Teatrelli Hall, aimed to celebrate the "UNESCO World Day for Cultural Diversity, Dialogue and Development" to open the horizons of intercultural dialogue, cultural diversity promotion, and tolerance.

The conference was opened by a special message from the National Commission of Romania for UNESCO presented by Mr. Codrin Taut, the coordinator of the cultural commission. We were delighted by the exceptional messages conveyed by Her Excellency Ms. Déborah Leticia Ojeda VALEDÓN on behalf of the Cuban Embassy and His Excellency Mr. Osama Yousef A.A. ALQARADAWI on behalf of the Embassy of Qatar. The project partners contributed with their messages to promote cultural diversity: the European Institute in Romania - Ms. Loredana Licuta, the National Agency for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men (ANES): Secretary of State, Ms. Luminița Popescu, the Romanian Institute for Human Rights (IRDO): Director Adrian Bulgaru. The participation of 20 diplomatic missions from 4 continents of the world (Africa, America, Asia, Europe) is an example of unity and promotion of cultural diversity, an indispensable asset for humanity.

The launch of the book "Rights of National Minorities" - Guide No. 2 for teachers, authored by Balint Claudia Crina and Naim Belgin, highlighted the partners' contribution to the development of the guide intended to promote the importance of knowledge about national ethnicities among children and youth, equality of opportunities, and to support teachers with specific games and activities, thus making a valuable contribution to educating young people in the spirit of human rights and mutual respect.

The conference took place in an atmosphere of cultural diversity accompanied by artistic moments aimed at conveying the messages of diversity and harmony presented by: Uruguay Primary School, Jean Monnet Theoretical High School, Nuci School - Ilfov County, Special School for the Deaf No. 1, Save the Children Association. The Tatar artistic moment performed by artist Genghiz Cutlacai, with its rhythm, warmed the atmosphere and enveloped us with exceptional Tatar music. We were pleasantly surprised by the concert "Flowers of May" organized by our partner, the Association of Women in Romania Together (AFRI), and coordinated by soprano Liliana Pagu.

The historical reenactment group Nokors, with its special exhibition consisting of traditional elements, costumes, and specific Tatar weapons, contributed to and promoted traditional cultural elements, adding value to intercultural dialogue and intangible cultural heritage, a COMMON GOOD OF HUMANITY, offering a "paiza" to each guest.

The Day of May 18, 1944, the deportation of the Tatars (surghiun), was also commemorated through the message of the UDT President, Mr. NAIM Belgin, and the film aimed at promoting the Crimean artist "Art in Kara Ulîs."

We thank all the special guests who participated and contributed to the exceptional success of the conference by valuing and respecting cultural diversity, creating bridges between different ethnic and foreign communities, succeeding in being united in diversity against discrimination: ambassadors, diplomats, government institutions of the state specializing in combating discrimination and defending human rights, representatives of international organizations, ethnic and NGOs, sports and cultural associations, university professors, and supporters of cultural diversity.
